Your Guides
Swedish Ardennes horse Tyra and mixed breed pony Saga are waiting you to join them on magical forest hikes through the beautiful landscape of the High Coast area. They will be your main guides on the horse hiking tour and will show you their favorite spots in the woods. We allow them to select the trails where possible.
Here at horsehiking.com we do things a little bit different. Horses that are allowed to express their own wishes are very communicative and will let you know what they like and appreciate in life. This is your chance to experience horses that have their own voice. We find spending time with these wonderful beings is the best form of mindfulness and a great way to both enjoy nature and feel the stress of everyday life melt away.
Saga is very body aware pony and enjoys tasks that involve balance and coordination. She loves it when people around her focus on being present in their own bodies as well.
Tyra loves it when she’s allowed to tag along freely. She is a master of climbing through extreme terrain and loves drinking water from creeks in the forest.
Your human guide is called Veronica Setterhall and she will host the tours together with an assistant. She has over 30 years of horse experience, has worked with logging horses and is dedicated to offering horse experiences that are enjoyable for everyone present. FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We’re located 15 minutes away from the famours High Coast bridge in the northern half of Sweden. If you go by car you find us here. We’re just a few kilometers off the E4 highway and easy to reach by car. The nearest train station is Härnösand station and the nearest airports are Höga Kusten Airport and SDL Airport (we’re located just between them). We can pick you up in Härnösand free of charge or at one of the mentioned airports against a fee.
What equipment do I need to bring?
The only thing you need to participate in our hikes is clothing adjusted to the weather and proper hiking shoes/boots. A bottle of water can be good to bring if you want to drink something more than what’s offered during the breaks.
Do I need previous knowledge of horses?
No previous experience needed! 🙂 We want to offer everyone the chance to spend time with horses. What we do ask is that you keep an open mind, especially if you’re used to horses from before or if you’re a skilled rider.
We take a unique approach here, giving our horses the space to express their own feelings and needs. We tailor our horse hiking tours to their mood, ensuring they feel safe, relaxed, and respected. And of course, the same goes for the humans too.
Can I bring my own snacks for the horses?
You’ll be given a pouch with horse treats to offer the horses during the hikes. Please do not bring your own horse treats or fruit as one of them is sensitive to sugar.

Ethical Horse Tourism
Horsehiking.com is dedicated to ethical horse tourism. We find it very important that the horses are not taken advantage of, but actually enjoy the activities that we offer. Our tours are based on what our horses enjoy the most: Roaming forest trails, free to express their natural behaviors and follow their curiosity.
Far too often you see tour riding companies, horse and carriage services and similar that force their horses to go on long routes with too heavy or inexperienced riders, pull heavy loads or stand all day in full sun with no shade. We want to show there’s another way for people to enjoy nature together with horses.
My wish is that more people and their horses want to join and turn this into a worldwide venture and a quality stamp that travelers can trust. Read the criteria here and contact me if you want to know how to become a certified Horse Hiking business where people can book your horse guided tours through this website.
